Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

In February 2025, AWB was awarded the contract to undertake critical infrastructure upgrades at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, including soil stack replacements and patient bathroom refurbishments across multiple levels of G Block. The works were designed to improve hygiene, accessibility, and compliance with healthcare standards, while maintaining operational continuity in a live hospital environment. AWB delivered a high-quality upgrade that enhanced patient comfort, safety, and compliance across the facility. The project was executed with minimal disruption to hospital operations, demonstrating AWB’s capability in managing complex healthcare refurbishments in live environments.

Scope Summary

AWB’s scope included demolition, construction, and services upgrades across Levels 5, 6, and 7, comprising:

• Demolition Works: Removal and disposal of all redundant items from bedrooms and bathrooms on Levels 6 and 7
• ACM Removal: Safe removal of asbestos-containing materials in accordance with regulatory standards
• Ceilings & Partitioning: Installation of fibre cement wall linings and Bioclad linings, including thermoforming, infills, additional framing, waterproofing, corner guards, spandrel panels, and noggins
• Carpentry: Supply and installation of new doors, pelmets, hardware, mirrors, exhaust fan face plates, signage, Corian shelves, and sanitary hardware
• Joinery: Installation of new cupboard doors, side panels, and top panels

Floor Coverings:

• Bedrooms: Armstrong Accolade Plus vinyl (Sand Grey and Sorrento Blue) with 150mm coved skirtings
• Toilets: Altro Aquarius vinyl (Hippo) with Ardex WPM002 waterproof membrane to prevent moisture ingress
• Painting: Patch, prep, and paint internal ceilings, walls, timber doors, frames, and pelmets
• Sprinkler Works: Capping of Level 5 sprinkler system
• Electrical Services: Switchboard upgrades, power and lighting installations, cable retainment, dry fire systems, and nurse call integration

Hydraulic Services:

• Levels 5, 6 & 7: Installation of Caroma flex wall-faced back inlet pans with Sloan 950 retrofit dual flush systems
• Levels 6 & 7: Installation of Caroma Care 600 basins, Galvin’s showers with swing-out brass options, Clinimax in-wall TMV mixer taps, grab rails, floor wastes, and grates
