Bentley Hospital- Midwifery

In May 2024, AWB was awarded the contract to deliver refurbishment works for the new Midwifery Birth Centre located on Level 2, A Block of Bentley Health Service. The centre was designed to provide a calm, family-oriented environment for expectant mothers with low-risk pregnancies, offering two birthing rooms and associated support infrastructure. The works were undertaken in a live hospital environment, requiring careful planning and execution to ensure surrounding clinical areas, including the Birth Centre Theatre, remained fully operational throughout. AWB successfully delivered the project within a live hospital setting, maintaining full operational continuity of adjacent clinical areas. The new Midwifery Birth Centre reflects a modern, welcoming aesthetic aligned with EMHS’s vision for patient-centred care.

Scope Summary

AWB’s scope included comprehensive demolition, construction, and services upgrades, comprising:

• Demolition & Removal: Removal of all redundant elements including vinyl flooring, coving, tiling, brick plinths, walls, joinery, windows, fittings, fixtures, ceilings, doors, door frames, and concrete scabbling
• Ceilings & Partitions: Installation of new partitions and ceilings including bulkheads, insulation, noggings, access panels, aluminium pressings, MDF boards, laminate panels, bitumen coatings, and acoustic wall panels
• Floor Coverings: Supply and installation of new vinyl flooring and wall/door vinyl, including floor preparation, coving, patterns, printing, and welding
• Glazing: Installation of 12.5mm acoustic laminated glass with aluminium framing, channels, and silicone joints
• Carpentry, Hardware & Fixtures: Installation of new timber doors, door hardware, acoustic seals, blinds, sanitary hardware, and accessories
• Painting: Surface preparation and painting of ceilings, walls, doors, and frames
• Ceiling Tiles: Installation of new ceiling tiles throughout
• Services: Electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical services upgrades
