Australia Post- Margaret River

AWB was awarded the roof replacement project at the heritage-listed Margaret River Post Office. Works were strategically scheduled during the Easter break to minimise disruption and address safety concerns due to friable asbestos.
AWB successfully delivered a safe, compliant, and high-quality roof replacement with zero disruption to postal services and full adherence to environmental and heritage requirements. The project demonstrated AWB’s capability in managing complex works involving hazardous materials within operational public facilities.

Scope Summary

AWB’s scope encompassed both hazardous material management and structural roofing works, including:

Asbestos Removal & Safety Management:

• Safe removal of 130m² of asbestos roof sheeting from the main building and 20m² from the rear shed
• Coordination of air monitoring in accordance with Australian Standards
• Removal of deteriorated non-asbestos materials from the roof cavity and adjacent shed
• Full disposal of hazardous and general waste at licensed landfill facilities
• Provision of specialised protection for existing building elements and structures
• Implementation of a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) approved by the local council
• Isolation of utilities and services in advance to ensure safe working conditions
• Use of artificial lighting to maintain safe visibility during works

Roof Replacement & Site Works:

• Supply and installation of new insulation (builder’s blanket)
• Installation of Colorbond Topdeck roof sheeting and flashings
• Dismantling and removal of temporary fencing and safety scaffolding
• Restoration of the site to its original condition post-completion
